- Cake Eaters
Maddox, Sam/editor; publisher; founder (74-75)
'Weisberg', Kenny/cofounder; columnist (74-75)
Back in '74 Sam's Boulder-based culture and music tabloid known as Cake Eaters was a hit with bebop afficianados, Bowie mods and people of taste who were sick of the washed out 'hippy' revolution. The paper took a mock elitist view of culture but was genuinely cutting edge. Over 20 years ago this editor was a blister-footed ad hustler for Cake Eaters and asked Sam why he chose to call it Cake Eaters. With his usual grin, Sam pointed out that our town (Boulder) was a mecca for people with spare time and a soft life on their hands. He called this town of cheesecake, milk, and honey "Emerald City." As a born compulsive writer I learned much about style from Sam. You can still reach Sam at Miramar's New Mobility Magazine where his e-mail address is posted. New Mobility is national magazine for the disabled and mobility impaired based in California.
