- Nikola Tesla - Technical innovator Nikola Tesla came to America from Croatia and performed many of his grand experiments while living in Colorado Springs. Tesla is the inventor of alternating current generation. America's first commercially operating AC power plant was reportedly built in Niagara Falls during the Industrial Revolution. Tesla believed he would eventually find a way to transmit electric current to users through air without wires. On that mission, nobody has ever attained practical success.
- Hunter S. Thompson
Hunter Thompson became America's wit-bent cynical poison pen after writing books such as "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" and "Fear and Loathing On the Campaign Trail", as well as his feature articles in Rolling Stone going back to Nixonian times. His having long been caricatured in Doonsbury comic strip is testimony to his cult icon status. (more later)
